05 December 2011
A fantastic demonstration at the South West Equine Christmas
Fair held near Exeter this weekend. Shane Borland and International Show
Jumper Philip Spivey swapped disciplines, only for 15 minutes, but both did a
fantastic job. Shane managed to jump about a meter and Philip performed
some great spins on Smart! A very successful demo, organised by Saracen
Horse Feeds, as both Shane and Philip are Saracen Horse Feeds sponsored
riders. They both enjoyed it so much, they would like to take it on
tour! Photos, videos and report to follow soon.
There are still some places on Shane's clinic on the 10th
December, this will be the last one this year, so please don't miss out.
02 November 2011
I have added a new clinic date of 10 December 2011 for a
clinic with Shane Borland. Our clinic last weekend was a great success
and I have been asked to add another date before the end of the year.
I have been very slow at getting all our results from the
end of the season up but I will endeavour to get this rectified as soon as
possible.
Ilan Rosenberg clinic this coming weekend, so if you are at
a loose end, come and watch, he is a fantastic clinician and you will learn
just as much watching as if you were taking part. We would love to see
you.
26 September 2011
What a season so far, with successes from all of our Rookie
and Non-Pro riders, Jo Wilde, Henrietta Campbell and Vix, Shane has had a
great busy year keeping us all in check and keeping us going! Only the
British Reining Championship Show at Bodiam left, the finale proves to be a
testing one for us all!
The booking form for the Ilan Clinic in November is now
available on our clinics page, there are places still available so please
don't miss out, it will be a great clinic.
There are more horses for sale on our for sales page, so go
and check out some lovely foals that are available.
06 September 2011
Shane has been working with
www.horseheros.com
and so far, 2 videos have been posted with great success. See our
trailers for a taste and go to the website for more information.
30 August 2011
August has been an unbelievably busy month, which isn't
usually the case! It started with Fenland Show, then the Al Dunning
clinic at Oakridge Quarter Horses, then the Sherwood Show, their first event,
then onto the Mike McEntire clinic at Bodiam, then the very popular WES
Championships at Moreton Morrell. We are now on our way back to Newark
for the second Sherwood Show. Not much time to stop but lessons are
still taking place here at BQH and horses are being prepared for the various
events.
Our Rookie riders have had some great results so far and
Shane, although hasn't had too much to show, has had some success with a 4
year old gelding belonging to Fiona Stringer Pick a Smart Player.
September is here already! Can you believe it, harvest
is coming to an end, hunters are back in work and the nights are drawing in, I
hate to say it! Time to plan the winter events and clinics! I will
be arranging some clinics to include a clinic with Ilan Rosenberg. For
those of you who don't know Ilan, he has been travelling from Europe to the UK
to give clinics for some years now, he has many links here as Shane has worked
very closely with him for some time. He is a great horseman and a great
clinician and it is a fantastic opportunity for you to come and spend some
time with him to learn more. Winter is the time to prepare for next
season, you may think I am mad thinking about next season when this one hasn't
finished but I have to say I am looking forward to it already! Our
clinics don't just involve competition horses but we can help with the
problems you may be having or you have a youngster that you are starting and
are just a bit stuck. What ever you want to work on or need help with,
there is often a solution that Shane can come up with! Keep any eye on
our clinics page for up and coming events.
19 July 2011
A very busy couple of weeks! Following the Saracen
Horse Feeds Gala Day, we had two demonstrations at the Polocrosse World Cup
held at Onley Equestrian Centre in Rugby. Shane gave two one hour demos
on the Friday and Saturday night, mostly watched by people we hadn't seen for
many years due to us no longer playing polocrosse. Smart was fantastic
as always, demonstrating all the reining manouvers perfectly with and without
a bridle. We have had a lot of comments and compliments from many
people.
We then went to the Garden of England Show held at Bodiam.
A very successful week had by all. Unfortunately, the weather didn't
help too much towards the end but we all survived!
August looks to be a busy month with Fenland Show, Oakridge
Show, The Mike McEntire Clinic and the WES Champs.
05 July 2011
Shane will be taking part in the Saracen Horse Feeds Gala
Day at Moreton Morrell as a celebrity rider on Wednesday 6 July along with
Carl Hester and other Saracen Horse Feeds riders. A great day out full
of information on nutrition for your horse as well as being able to talk to
and watch some great riders.
15 June 2011
The latest results have now been posted on our results page
from the East Coast Quarter Horse Circuit Show held at Bodiam and The Fenland
Quarter Horse Circuit held in March, Cambridgeshire.
Well done to all our Rookie riders, a fantastic job done and
to Jane Carley in the halter classes with Troy.
20 May 2011
Colt Foal born 20 May 2011 SES Smart Star x Wimpys Little
Step. A beautiful boy who arrived at 0145 this morning.

17 May 2011
BQH Rookies clean up at the British Reining Spring Show held
at Sovereign Quarter Horses over the weekend. Full results can be found
on our Results Page.
All our Rookie riders came home with at least one win from the weekend, a
fantastic start to the season for them all. Our next outing will be the
East Coast Quarter Horse Circuit Show being held at Sterling Quarter Horses,
Bodiam on 27, 28 and 29 May.
Photos from the shows go to
http://www.nrhphotography.co.uk/
10 May 2011
The show season kicked off last weekend with the
AQHA-UK Spring show at Sovereign Quarter Horses in Cambridgeshire. It
was a good start and a good turn out all round. See our results page for
all BQH results. We now move on to the British Reining Spring Show this
coming weekend being held at Sovereign Quarter Horses in March,
Cambridgeshire. We have a good contingent making their way to
Cambridgeshire from BQH, Warwickshire!
As yet we do not have any clinics planned, although I am
getting asked if we can put some on. The reason I hadn't planned any was
because there are so many shows it was fitting it all in! But keep an
eye on our clinics page and we will arrange something soon.
Zulu Cowboy now has in stock a wide range of Yucca Flats
Saddle Blankets, these are beautiful hand woven saddle blankets that really do
stand out at the shows. Go to
www.zulucowboy.co.uk to see what designs are
currently in stock but if you can't find what you are looking for, I can
always get it in for you. They really are great blankets that look
fantastic, keep an eye out for Jo Wilde on Freckles Dun Chic or Henrietta
Campbell on Bat Aviv and SES Chic O'Lena and also Shane and myself as we are
all using the blankets.
17 April 2011
Once again, we had a very successful clinic with Ilan
Rosenberg last weekend. A good turn out, great weather and a really nice
weekend. As usual, Ilan put us all through our paces and we all came
away feeling like we had worked hard, no gain without pain!!! Thank you
to everyone who attended and thank you Ilan for coming.
Zulu Cowboy, now has in stock a great range of Yucca Flats
saddle blankets, the first order went in a flash so put your order in to avoid
disappointment, the next delivery should be here soon. Not all the
designs will be on the website just yet but if there is a design you like, let
me know and I may have it in stock or I will be able to get it in for you.
Our rates are very competitive with European stockists and we are the only
supplier in the UK. These are beautiful blankets that look fantastic on
your horse but I have just sold one for someone's floor!!!! The only way
to look great in the show pen!
29 March 2011
There are still places available on the Ilan Rosenberg
clinic taking place here at BQH on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April. This
is a great opportunity to ride with one of Europe's leading clinicians.
The show season is fast approaching, the show calendar is
out and everyone is planning which shows they will be
attending. This is an ideal time to get booked onto a clinic and
prepare. Or if you are just wanting to spend the summer playing with
your pony and make the most of the time of year, we can help you out.
Keep an eye on our clinics page for more details.
Shane becomes a Saracen Horse Feeds rider.
Contracts were signed today with Saracen Horse Feeds' Gillian
Fuller and Sharron Harrington. This is a fantastic opportunity for
Borland Quarter Horses. Each horse will have a tailor made feed
programme to suit them and their requirements. Congratulations to
Shane, he will be taking part in the Saracen Horse Feeds Convention in
July of this year. Look out for details.
11 February 2011
Alex Hua Tian, China's leading event rider came to Borland
Quarter Horses yesterday to experience reining. Thanks to Leslie
Sutcliffe and Farnam Products UK, Shane coached Alex on Henrietta Campbell's
SES Chic Olena (Ebby), on the basics of reining. It was a fantastic day
that was captured on camera with the view to compiling a short film to be
published on You Tube. Thank you very much to all involved, Leslie
Sutcliffe, Mel Crouch, Shane Borland and Alex Hua Tian.
13 January 2011
Warwickshire Hunt Pony Club have a rally at BQH with
Shane

Thank you to the Warwickshire Hunt Pony Club for coming to
BQH for a rally over the weekend. Shane found it terrifying at first but
so much fun. He loved spending time with the children and experiencing a
different find of horse! He started by giving a talk on the tack and
turn out and then gave a display on SES Smart Star. Although, when the
ponies started to arrive into the arena, all Smart wanted to do was leave!
Sharron Harrington from Saracens Horse Feeds
experiences Reining.

BQH has been working with Saracens Horse Feeds for a couple
of months now. It began following a lesson that Shane gave to Sharron
Harrington's daughter Stef on her show jumper who was having problems with
lead changes. Stef went back to her mum full of praise for Shane and his
methods. Sharron was keen to get BQH on board with Saracens, she liked
the horses and the way we looked after them, along with our philosophy.
We are still on trial with a couple of our horses but so far, we can see a
huge difference in their appearance and how they are going. We are
really grateful to Sharron for her support and look forward to a possible
partnership in the future. During December, we gave Sharron a go on SES
Smart Star, she loved it and hopefully got her hooked
03 January 2011
Happy New Year!!
Time to get on and prepare for the fast approaching 2011
show season. Our clinic dates have now been published on this site, go
to our Clinics
page for more details. To include a clinic with Ilan Rosenberg
right at the start of the season. This is a very popular fixture so
don't delay on booking your spot. Ilan is one of Europe's leading
clinicians and Shane has worked very closely with him over the last few years,
both using very much the same methods. Don't miss this fantastic
opportunity.
Dates for clinics with Shane are also now on the site, one
on one sessions for you to work on what ever you would like to work on, beit
from the ground or mounted.
The start of winter has been a testing one but we have been
fortunate enough to have had no down time at all. Our great new indoor
arena and round pen have held up brilliantly well with not a hint of freezing.
The only freezing has been in the water pipes but that hasn't slowed us up!
Your Horse magazine have got a fantastic article in their
latest issue, with Shane and SES Smart Star, it is great exposure for BQH but
equally great that western should feature in this publication.
Go to
http://www.yourhorse.co.uk/Magazine/Issue-343/ click on the
magazine at the bottom of the page and you can turn the pages to read the
articles.
We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you through
the year.
28 December 2010
Goodness me the update is well overdue! Apologies for
the lack of communication, it would appear that I don't get as much time to
sit at the machine any more. Since returning from WEG, we have focused
on establishing the new facility and getting prepared before winter sets in.
We managed that, thank goodness, before all this snow arrived. I don't
think my car has moved in almost 2 weeks!
Now we have a lessons horse, we have been flat out with
lessons, Chic hasn't stopped! It has been great meeting so many new
people and helping them to develop and enjoy their hobby.
Our stables are also full which is fantastic for this time
of year. We haven't had any down time at all with the indoor arena and
the round pen standing up really well to this adverse weather. Great for
the horses but perhaps a little tiring on us!
The New Year looks to be bringing new challenges. Jo
Wildes' mare Slidin With Crome, is due to foal mid January 2011, she is now
tucked into her box, looking very uncomfortable with her big tummy, so foal
watch will get under way in a couple of weeks time. She is in foal to
Big Chex to Cash. This will hopefully be a first for the UK and we are
all really looking forward to this new arrival. We have another foal due
later on in the year, out of SES Smart Star by Wimpys Little Step. We
did an embryo transfer with this one so that Smart could continue to show.
All bodily parts are crossed for this one for sure!
Garden of England Circuit kick off their season with their
first event in January, with their second in February and their third in
March. These are great little training shows with a clinic on the second
day with Doug Allen.
Oakridge Quarter Horses are also awaiting their new indoor
show venue and look to be hosting a number of shows this year.
Sovereign Quarter Horses will also be hosting their usual
events this year. So you can see the number of show venues are
increasing which is great for our sport, giving us more options throughout the
year.
British Reining continues to hold their Spring Show, this
year being mid May and their Championship Show in October. BR also
continues to be a big supporter of the UK Coaching Certificate offering
funding towards the programme and also towards clubs who are associated with
them. You can find more details on the UKCC at
www.britishreining.co.uk as this
programme continues to grow and gain momentum. A big thank you to
Pauline Brimson for her help and support in assisting me in running the
programme for BR.
There will also be the usual clinics and other events
throughout 2011. We will hopefully be holding the usual clinics with
Ilan Rosenberg, should time allow!
I would like to wish everyone all the best wishes for 2011
and we look forward to seeing you all through the season.
16 September 2010
Goodness me a month since I last wrote. Apologies for
being so bad, finally settling in and also preparing for the World Equestrian
Games!!
Shane attended the last East Coast Quarter Horse Circuit
Show at Bodiam at the beginning of September with SES Smart Star and Freckles
Dun Chic. This was a bit of a warm up for Smart before WEG and Saar had
had a bit of time off so this was his first run for some time. Both came
out on top, Freckles Dun Chic won the Limited Open on Saturday and SES Smart
Star won the Intermediate Open, Shane then ran both in the Open and came joint
first with them both. A very successful day all round.
Well Shane and SES Smart Star are on their way as I type,
first to Belgium where Smart will catch her plane to Cinncinati. Shane,
Vix and Sammi fly out on Monday 20th to meet her at The Kentucky Horse Park.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who have
helped make this possible. The South African Equestrian Federation,
Alastair Lukies of Montise Group plc, Jo Wilde and Cheryl & Jamie McCrindle,
owners of SES Smart Star. Also to thank the support team here in the UK,
Rob Jenkinson our farrier, Bouton Vale Equine Clinic (the paperwork was
huge!), Gareth Bate, Pat Chapple for all the cooking and cleaning to keep us
going leading up to leaving. Thank you so much to you all and apologies
to anyone I have forgotten, I don't mean to, brain is now overloaded! It
would not have been possible to get to WEG without all your help and support.
Coverage of the Games can be seen at
http://www.feitv.org/page/Live/0,,12664,00.html.
If this isn't successful, have a look around the FEI web page for any details.
16 August 2010
The new indoor arena is fantastic. We have pretty much
settled in now and are getting into the swing of things. Still some work
to do about the place but just teething problems. Overall, the horses
are really settled and all going really well. We have great off road
riding and bridleways around us and it is so nice to take the horses for an
out ride once in a while, even if it does mean bumping into an out of control
child on her pony on a bridleway!
We have arranged some clinics for later in the year.
Shane will be holding a clinic in October and Ilan Rosenberg is coming back in
November. Go to our clinics page for details and contact us for more
information.
Preparations for WEG are going well. Smart flies from
Belgium on 19 September to Kentucky with the rest of Team South Africa.
Watch this space for more details.
11 August 2010
At last we have moved! I don't advise anyone to move
house and yard at the same time in too much of a hurry! It didn't help
that things were not really complete on the yard but we got there eventually.
It also didn't help that we had planned to have a clinic with Ilan Rosenberg
just a week after moving! Nothing like a bit of pressure to get you
going!
The clinic was a fantastic success and all seemed to really
enjoy it. Ran over 2 days each person having a one on one session with
Ilan in the morning and afternoon of both days. Thanks to Ilan and the
riders, the days ran like clock work and went without too much of a hitch.
We had a lamb roast on Saturday night which was also a great success and
enjoyed by all.
I would like to thank everyone for coming along, it was
great to have your support and thank you to Ilan and Niki Rosenberg. We
plan to hold another clinic with Ilan later this year. We already have
huge demand for it, so it you are interested, please drop me a line.
Our new contact details are on our
Contact Us page.
16 July 2010
The new indoor arena at Coverwell Farm has now been
completed. This is so exciting. We will be moving the week
commencing 26 July 2010, first the horses will be going and we will then be
moving house at the end of the week. The Ilan Rosenberg clinic will be
taking place there on 7 and 8 August 2010. For those of you attending
the address is Coverwell Farm, Pillerton Hersey, Warwickshire, CV35 0QA
09 July 2010
We now have a date for our move, it will be week commencing
26 July 2010. So much to do in so little time! We will continue to
do the best we can for the horses we have in training and livery with us and
to ensure that our clients receive the best service that we can possibly
deliver. We only ask that you think of what we will soon have, a
fantastic indoor arena, outdoor arena, great off road riding and a brand new
stable block. We will be able to give an even better service to
everyone.
We still have spaces on the Ilan Rosenberg clinic 7 and 8
August 2010. We will be having a lamb on a spit on the Saturday night,
we would love to see as many people as possible, it will be a great weekend.
Please join us. For more details, please do not hesitate to contact me.
09 June 2010
At last we have got our planning permission for our indoor
arena. Permission was granted last Wednesday 2 June 2010. This is
a fantastic opportunity for us that will mean that we can train and work all
year round. As yet no dates have been confirmed for the move but it will
be by the end of July. Go to our New Facilities page to get updates and
pictures of the development.
The Ilan Rosenberg clinic has been changed to Saturday 7th
and Sunday 8th August 2010. Please contact me to book your space as soon
as possible so as not to miss out.
01 June 2010
Congratulations to Fiona Stringer for attending her first
show of the season and doing very well. See our results page for
details. Fiona attended the SQH Challenge Show on Sunday 30 May 2010
with her mare Snippers Smart Jewel.
Shane attended the Spring East Coast Quarter Horse Circuit
Show at Bodiam over the weekend. He took Freckles Dun Chic, owned by Jo
Wilde and Bat Aviv, owned by Henrietta Campbell. Both horses are new to
Shane and their owners and so the show was a very successful outing. A
great start to the 2010 season.
There are still places available on the Ilan Rosenberg
clinic. This is a fantastic opportunity to come and ride with and get
instruction from Ilan. Please
contact us for details.
23 April 2010
Congratulations to Shane and SES Smart Star, they today
posted the required score to qualify for The World Equestrian Games taking
place in Kentucky USA in September 2010.

Over 600 hits a month to our Horses For Sale page, to
advertise your horse with us, contact us.
Saturday 17 April 2010, BQH held a small but effective
clinic. It was unfortunate that half our potential delegates were either
stuck in Europe or their horses were stuck, due to the Icelandic volcano.
We had a great day nevertheless and the weather was glorious. I would
like to thank all those who attended and we look forward to seeing you again
soon. I will be posting dates as soon as possible for further clinics,
either with Shane or Ilan Rosenberg, who I hope to get over soon. Watch
this space for details.
We have a number of horses for sale on our site ranging from
the show horse to the great hack, all of which are great horses to own, so if
you are looking to buy, please take a look at our
Horses for Sale page.
If we don't have anything on there that you think would suit you, please do
not hesitate to contact us and we may be able to help.
17 March 2010
Your Horse Magazine came to Borland Quarter Horses yesterday
to carry out an interview with Shane on the basics of horse ownership.
Sons Royal Chic (Chic) performed brilliantly for the camera and was very well
behaved. The topics covered were, leading, tying up and general safety
tips around the horse. Look out for the April issue of Your Horse.
01 March 2010

avoid disappointment.
We would be grateful for your support. Happy
Shopping!!!
20 February 2010
Shane attended the Andrea Fappani Clinic in Germany this
month. He left the UK 25 January 2010 to spend some time with Ilan
Rosenberg, he took Jo Wilde's Freckles Dun Chic (Saar) with him. The
first clinic started on Tuesday 9 February to Thursday 11 February and the
second clinic started Friday 12 February to Sunday 14 February. Shane
was fortunate enough to watch the first 3 days and he took part in the second
clinic. A fantastic opportunity, that couldn't have been missed.
Vix and Sammi joined Shane for the weekend. The weather was unbelievably
cold, there was a lot of snow, but thanks to the outdoor heaters, it was
bearable. Sammi was fortunate enough to be able to meet and spend time
with Ilan and Niki Roshenberg's daughter Zoher which meant that she didn't
have to sit through the entire clinic.
A huge thank you to Ilan and Niki for the time that Shane
and Saar have spent out in Germany and for giving Shane the opportunity to
spend as much time as he did with Andrea, who was a great clinician and a
really nice person.
We are soon to hold our clinic on Sunday 28 February.
Until we get the five day weather forecast, I can't be sure that this clinic
will be going ahead, but all fingers are crossed! We will be arranging
more clinics, dates of which will be released soon.
27 January 2010
Goodness me, where has January gone? We made it
through the ice and the snow, just and I think we are coming out the other
end!! I am now planning clinic dates, the show season is rapidly
approaching, it is time to get prepared! Please see our clinics page for
details. We are very much at the mercy of the weather as usual but I
will be arranging the dates in the hope that all should be well!
